On 11 October 2021, EURIEC employees met with employees of the SikoRuhr (Sicherheitskooperation Ruhr) for an introductory meeting. The SiKo Ruhr was founded in 2020 with the aim of intensifying the fight against criminal families in the Ruhr area by bringing together different government departments. Employees of the police, municipalities and customs work closely together here to make the fight against clan crime even more efficient and effective. During the discussion, we found many similarities in our work and goals. For example, both the EURIEC and SiKoRuhr are convinced that organised crime is a major threat to the security of citizens and that the fight against organised crime should not be the task of the police and judiciary alone. In addition, our common long-term goal is to ensure that municipalities and other partners recognise the signals of organised crime and use the existing powers to act.
