Information from the central commercial register

The assessment of a permit (application) can be difficult for municipalities if the permit applicant comes from abroad.

Is the applicant from Germany?

Useful tip for Dutch and Belgian municipalities: ask for an extract from the “Gewerbezentralregister” in Germany.

The Gewerbezentralregister is maintained by the German Federal Office of Justice and collects information on German entrepreneurs. The register contains data on decisions by authorities to prohibit a company from continuing its activities due to the unreliability or unsuitability of an entrepreneur.

This information can be requested by foreign municipalities if the requesting foreign authority is comparable to a German authority that would be granted access for the same purpose under German law.
