On 27.09.2022, the LKA NRW (State Criminal Police Office of North Rhine Westphalia) invited EURIEC to an information event broadcast online throughout Germany on the establishment and operation of illegal laboratories for the production of synthetic drugs as well as the disposal of laboratory waste in the border area Belgium/Netherlands/Germany. The event aimed to draw the attention of the participating authorities to the establishment and operation of illegal laboratories for the production of synthetic drugs as well as to the disposal of laboratory waste in the border area (B, NL, D). Representatives of the state criminal investigation departments, municipalities, police authorities and fire brigades participated in this event.
Representatives of the LKA, the fire brigade, and German and Dutch municipalities reported on their experiences. The essence for all participants was that for successful and early detection of narcotics laboratories and laboratory waste, the targeted exchange of information is necessary between authorities at the national and the international level. Representatives of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) gave a presentation on the ENAA, and Annelore Eichel, Account Manager EURIEC, reported on the work and goals of the EURIEC. In this context, representatives of the BKA and EURIEC pointed out the importance and relevance of the administrative approach and called for an increased exchange of information, especially across borders.
